Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe on Friday led a high-impact development tour of Mui Ward in Mwingi Central Constituency, unveiling a series of transformative projects aimed at redefining livelihoods and improving service delivery in the area.

During the tour, Governor Malombe commissioned the newly constructed maternity wing at Yumbu Dispensary together with a renovated outpatient block, projects expected to significantly enhance healthcare services for residents. The county boss said the investment forms part of his administration’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand access to quality maternal and outpatient care across Kitui County.

The Governor noted that improving grassroots healthcare remains a key pillar of his development agenda, adding that residents deserve dignified and accessible medical services closer to their homes.

Area MCA Cornelius Muthami praised the county government for prioritizing healthcare development in the ward, saying the upgraded facility will ease pressure on nearby health centres while improving service delivery for local families.

In a major boost to water access in the semi-arid ward, Governor Malombe also commissioned the KSh 17 million Kaki–Kilali Sump Well Water Supply Project. The project is expected to improve access to clean and reliable water for hundreds of households and institutions within the region.

The water project, managed by KIMWASCO, is currently serving Lundi Primary School, Kyamwenze Secondary School and Lundi Dispensary. It includes a submersible pump and accessories, a rising main pipeline, distribution lines, air valves, washouts, a 100-cubic-metre masonry water tank, solar modules, a guard house, a pit latrine, and three water kiosks benefiting an estimated 1,500 residents.

Governor Malombe further announced plans to extend the pipeline through Musokani to Kathonzweni Shopping Centre and Mui Dispensary, with the long-term target of serving more than 1,000 households.
