Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo has publicly clashed with Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of political betrayal and interference in county affairs.
In remarks shared on a professional forum and seen by this publication, Kinengo dismissed the influence of the Wiper Party in Kitui politics, asserting that residents are capable of electing leaders without external pressure.
“The people of Kitui County are sober and wise enough to elect their own leaders without any political influence,” he said.
The Speaker alleged that the party has been intimidating leaders and attempting to control MCAs, claiming it prefers first-time legislators whom it can easily influence. He further argued that Wiper has a poor record in retaining elected MCAs, citing the 2022 elections.
Kinengo also claimed that the party did not support his successful bid for the Speaker’s position and has since been behind several impeachment attempts against him.
“Wiper party didn’t support my speakership but I won. It has been sponsoring impeachment motions against me, but I am still standing,” he stated.
The latest fallout comes against the backdrop of earlier tensions between Kinengo and the Wiper Party. In 2025, he was summoned by the party leadership over alleged disloyalty following his participation in empowerment rallies alongside government officials.
In September 2025, Kinengo resigned from the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), citing a conflict of interest between his role as Speaker and his responsibilities within the party.
Hinting at a possible senatorial run, Kinengo said he would not require the party’s endorsement, expressing confidence in the electorate’s independence.
“I don’t need their ticket to become senator. The people of Kitui will choose their leaders wisely,” he added.
He further accused Kalonzo of sidelining him politically and recounted an incident in Kilifi where he claimed he was ejected from a party meeting by the Wiper leader.
Kinengo concluded with a warning, daring Kalonzo to continue criticizing him, saying he would respond by exposing undisclosed issues.
