Augustus Kyalo Muli, the leader of the National Liberal Party and national patron of Anzauni Clan kenya, has once again faced a major defeat in his political journey. Allegations has it that Kyalo was recently conned out of his nomination for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel.
Investing millions shillings to secure the support of 16 delegates at the Kyaka Hotel in Machakos, Muli’s efforts proved futile when he was found lacking the necessary qualifications and credentials to represent the coalition in the IEBC panel.
The scrutiny extended beyond Kyalo’s qualifications, questioning the legitimacy of his endorsement by the National Liberal Party. It was highlighted that his party does not hold parliamentary status within the Azimio la Umoja, One Kenya Alliance coalition, leading to his replacement by Ambassador Koki Muli.
This unexpected change shocked many, especially since Muli had secured the backing of 16 delegates, marking a notable achievement in his political career.
This recent defeat echoes a similar incident in 2022, when Kyalo Muli, confident in his financial prowess, aimed to influence the Kitui County Assembly speakership race.
Despite spending over undisclosed amounts on bribes, lunches, and promised vacations for MCAs, he was overwhelmingly defeated by the youthful lawyer Kevin Kinengo Katisya, securing less than 10 votes. This loss left Muli in a state of astonishment and incredulity, casting a long shadow over his political ambitions.
Insiders reveal that Muli’s recent expenditure on delegates was an attempt to secure the IEBC selection panel position, only to be outmaneuvered again.
Delegates who had assured their votes ultimately left Muli with significant financial losses. Reflecting on this second alleged political con, the possibility of Kyalo reclaiming his lost funds remains uncertain.
Adding to his woes, Muli’s National Delegates Conference two days after the IEBC incident flopped dramatically. Despite extensive online hype, the event saw a turnout akin to a small village gathering, with photographs circulating on WhatsApp showing numerous empty seats.
The poor attendance left Muli, who often portrays himself as a successful Dubai business mogul, in a state of shock and disbelief. Criticism mounted over his inability to mobilize local support, revealing the extent of the local population’s apathy towards his political endeavors.
Muli’s allies attributed the poor turnout to the failures in his mobilization team. They disclosed that gospel artist Stephen Kasolo, hired to draw more attendees, was astonished to find himself performing for only a handful of people.
The National Liberal Party, holding no elected positions in Kenya, faced a significant blow, with the event’s failure highlighting the challenges and skepticism Muli must overcome in his political journey.
