Hon. Charity Musyoka has held a disability awareness and empowerment meeting with seven disability groups at AIC Ndili in Ikutha Sub-County, focusing on financial inclusion, savings and access to disability-related services.

During the meeting, Musyoka, a NARC-nominated MCA, educated members on disability matters, with participants expressing gratitude for the awareness and guidance provided.

As part of the empowerment initiative, Musyoka donated KSh 5,000 to each of the seven groups to boost their table banking activities and strengthen their financial capacity.

She encouraged the groups to open bank accounts and cultivate a saving culture by depositing profits generated through their table banking initiatives. She said proper financial management and consistent savings could help the groups grow their capital, improve their economic independence and support members facing financial challenges.

The seven groups welcomed the initiative, thanking Musyoka for engaging them and providing information on disability issues, which they said would help them better understand their rights and available opportunities.

During the meeting, the groups also expressed support for former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, citing what they described as benefits received by PWD groups during her tenure.

The members said disability groups had benefited from empowerment funds and free medical care under Ngilu’s administration, pointing to these initiatives as important interventions for vulnerable persons with disabilities.

The meeting highlighted the importance of disability awareness, economic empowerment and inclusive healthcare in improving the welfare of persons with disabilities across Kitui County.

Musyoka reaffirmed her commitment to working with disability groups and other stakeholders to promote their inclusion, strengthen grassroots initiatives and improve access to essential services.
