Patients at Kitui County Referral Hospital (KCRH) are set to benefit from improved access to medicines and essential medical supplies following the arrival of a consignment worth KSh44.6 million.
The consignment was procured through the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF), a financing mechanism that enables public health facilities to retain revenue generated from their services and reinvest it in healthcare delivery. The funds have supported the purchase of medicines, medical supplies and other essential items required to maintain hospital operations.
The latest consignment comprises medicines worth KSh29 million supplied by Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) and another KSh15.6 million worth of supplies from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA). It also includes a range of non-pharmaceutical commodities and hospital consumables expected to support various departments.
Chief Officer for Drugs and Medical Supplies Aggrey Kamba and KCRH Medical Superintendent John Mungai, who received the supplies, said the delivery will help stabilize stock levels and improve the hospital’s capacity to provide timely treatment. They also encouraged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying increased enrollment would help households access healthcare while reducing the burden of out-of-pocket payments.
The latest investment is part of the county government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure residents have access to essential medicines and quality medical services when they need them.
