Kitui Women representative Dr Irene Kasalu is set to tour Mwingi North Sub-County next week in a major grassroots mobilisation drive aimed at strengthening her connection with local voters ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The three-day engagement, dubbed the “Meet the People Tour Mwingi North Chapter,” will take the Kitui Woman Representative across Ngomeni, Tharaka and Tseikuru wards, where she is expected to hold public meetings and listen to residents’ concerns on key development issues affecting the region.
According to her campaign team, the tour is designed to provide Kasalu with a firsthand understanding of the challenges facing communities in the expansive border constituency, including insecurity, poor road networks, water scarcity, youth unemployment, education and healthcare access. The meetings are also expected to give residents an opportunity to directly air their grievances and expectations as the county moves closer to the next general election.
Political analysts say such tours play a critical role in grassroots mobilisation by helping leaders build trust, strengthen local networks and shape policy priorities based on the needs of ordinary wananchi. Through direct interaction with residents, Kasalu is expected to consolidate support in Mwingi North while positioning herself as a leader focused on people-centered development and inclusive governance.
The tour will begin on Wednesday, May 13, in Ngomeni Ward with stopovers at Mitamisyi Town, Kavaani Shopping Centre and Ngomeni Town. On Thursday, May 14, she will visit Campiu Town and Nthangani Town in Tharaka Ward before concluding the tour on Friday, May 15, in Tseikuru Ward with meetings at Mulangoni, Kaningo, Musavani and Tseikuru Town.
