Kitui County’s Chief Officer Gladys Mami Kivoto has once again brought smiles to the faces of elderly residents across Mutha Ward after launching her annual festive season outreach aimed at supporting and honoring senior citizens.

The initiative kicked off at Kwa Mbae Ward, where Kivoto spent time with elderly women and men, distributing foodstuffs including rice, green grams (ndengu), cooking oil, soda, bread, and lesos. The gesture was met with joy and appreciation, with beneficiaries describing the visit as both uplifting and deeply touching.

Kivoto later visited another group of senior citizens at Mwala, where she carried out similar activities, taking time to listen, interact, and share moments of companionship with the elderly. In the evening, she concluded the day at Kiimani, where she again extended support and fellowship, receiving a warm reception from grateful residents.

Speaking during the visits, Kivoto noted that the initiative is fully funded by her family and has been running consistently for the past seven years. She said the program is driven by a deep personal commitment to give back to the community and to honor the elderly who once played a vital role in nurturing society. She also urged families and communities to show love, respect, and care for senior citizens, emphasizing that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

After the outreach, Kivoto condoled with the family of Mutia at Ikandani Village following the tragic death of his son, Isaac Mutia, who lost his life in a road accident alongside a driver. Describing the loss as heartbreaking, she encouraged motorists to exercise caution on the roads to prevent similar tragedies, especially during the festive season.
