Public Health Chief Officer Lynn Kitwan on Friday 14th November 2025 led a highly successful World Diabetes Day awareness walk in Kitui Town, bringing together health workers, KMTC students, and CHPs in a united effort to promote early detection and lifestyle change. The walk, which snaked through major streets of the town, was aimed at enhancing public understanding of diabetes and encouraging residents to take personal responsibility for their health.

Addressing at the event, Kitwan emphasized the importance of early screening, noting that diabetes can be managed effectively when detected early. She urged residents to take advantage of the free services provided by the county health teams. “We are calling on all Kitui residents to come out for screening it is absolutely free in every county facility,” she said. “Knowing your status early can save your life.”

The Chief Officer further highlighted the county’s commitment to continuous public health education, stating that awareness campaigns remain a critical tool in combating lifestyle diseases. She noted that many people live with diabetes without knowing it, making community outreach essential in preventing complications such as blindness, kidney failure, and amputations.

Kitwan thanked partners, health workers, and CHPs who participated in the walk, reiterating that the Ministry of Health and Sanitation remains dedicated to promoting healthier communities. “Our goal is to ensure every household in Kitui understands the risks, recognizes the symptoms, and embraces regular screening,” she added.
