Dr Irene Kasalu Encourages Kenyans To Open Their Homes, Adopt Kids

Dr Irene Kasalu has called on capable Kenyan families to open their homes and embrace child adoption as part of efforts to provide vulnerable children with stable and loving family environments.

Speaking during a visit to AIC Kitui Baby Home, the Woman Representative said children thrive better in family settings where they can receive parental care, emotional support and proper guidance compared to institutional care

Kasalu urged Kenyans with the ability to support children to consider adoption and foster care in order to help decongest children’s homes across the country. She noted that family-based care plays a key role in the proper growth and development of children.

“I encourage able families to consider adopting children, as a family environment is critical to the proper development of a child,” said Kasalu.

During the visit, the Woman Representative also donated foodstuffs, diapers, tissues and other basic necessities to support the children and caregivers at the institution. She praised the staff at the home for their commitment to nurturing vulnerable children and ensuring they grow up in a safe environment.

Kasalu added that her remarks were in line with the government’s recent directive encouraging the absorption of children into family settings instead of prolonged stay in institutions. She further warned that some unscrupulous operators have in the past used children’s homes as conduits for trafficking and exploitation, emphasizing the need for stronger child protection measures and responsible adoption systems.
