Exposé: How MP Kaki Nyamai, Her Brother, Niece & Cronies Rigged KeRRA Projects

1763

The anti-graft spotlight has firmly turned on Kitui South, as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigates what is now being described as one of the most blatant cases of nepotism, conflict of interest, and looting of public funds in recent times. Documents seen by Hopkin Digital Media reveal that EACC has written to the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) demanding certified records of projects awarded to companies linked to Kitui South MP Rachael Kaki Nyamai, her family, and political allies.

In a letter referenced EACC.MCKS.6/1/2(189) and dated 26th August 2025, the Commission ordered KeRRA to produce details of all projects awarded since 2013 to four shadowy firms: Muyo K Enterprises Ltd, Tira Southshore Holdings Ltd, Kyatune General Stores Ltd, and Fedma Store. The anti-graft body directed KeRRA to supply tender documents, evaluation reports, directors’ details, contract sums, payment records, and project statuses within 14 days, warning that failure to comply would amount to obstruction under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.

Behind these companies is a web of relatives and cronies. Investigations show that Tira Southshore Holdings Ltd has significant shares controlled by Abigail Mukeli, the MP’s niece; Muyo K Enterprises Ltd is owned by former Ikanga Kyatune MCA Mbiti, a long-time ally; while Fedma Store and Kyatune General Stores Ltd are both registered by Ferdinand Makwele Nyamai, the MP’s own brother. These insider connections point to a carefully constructed tender-rigging network where family and friends walk away with lucrative contracts at the expense of Kitui South residents.

This probe comes hot on the heels of a damning Auditor General’s 2023/2024 report, which exposed massive irregularities in the Kitui South NGCDF. Over Ksh. 1.1 million was paid out as “sitting allowances” for meetings that had no supporting minutes, while inflated classroom construction budgets resulted in cracked walls, poor finishes, and substandard materials. In essence, money meant for bursaries, education, and infrastructure has been treated like the MP’s personal ATM, leaving locals with half-baked projects and no accountability.

The coordinated move by both EACC and KeRRA headquarters signals a tightening noose around MP Kaki Nyamai. What began as whispers of corruption has now exploded into a full-blown scandal, with investigative trails stretching back over a decade.
