Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has officially forwarded the names of three nominees for key county leadership positions to the Kitui County Assembly for vetting, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 6th August 2025. This comes after a rigorous and competitive recruitment process aimed at filling the crucial offices of County Secretary, County Attorney, and Secretary to the County Public Service Board. The nominees are Agnes Kawila Mulewa for County Secretary, Timothy Kyalo Muange for County Attorney, and Christopher Okumu Ombunya for Secretary, County Public Service Board.
Speaking on the nomination process, Governor Malombe emphasized that the selections were purely merit-based. He revealed that the selection panel, chaired by Dr. Nzomo Mwita, had submitted a final shortlist from which he picked the top-ranked candidates for each position. The Governor noted that this process strictly adhered to the provisions of the County Governments (Amendment) Act, 2020, which outlines transparent recruitment procedures for senior county officials to ensure integrity and professionalism in county governance.
The recruitment exercise attracted significant interest, with a total of 63 valid applications received following a public advertisement issued on June 30, 2025. The high number of applicants reflects the competitive nature of the positions and underscores the county government’s commitment to attracting qualified and experienced individuals to serve in leadership roles that are pivotal to the delivery of services to Kitui residents.
He expressed confidence that the nominees possess the requisite competence and ethical standards to drive Kitui’s development agenda forward. The County Assembly is now expected to conduct thorough vetting to ensure that the nominees meet the expectations and aspirations of the people of Kitui.
