Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called on the Ministry of Education to increase capitation to schools and ensure timely disbursement of funds, warning that delays continue to disrupt learning in many institutions across the country.

In a statement, the Governor emphasized that adequate and timely funding is critical to the smooth operation of schools, noting that institutions often struggle to meet basic needs due to delayed or insufficient capitation.

“I call upon the National Government, through the Ministry of Education, to increase capitation to schools and ensure that funds are disbursed on time so that learning institutions can operate smoothly,” she said.

At the county level, Governor Ndeti highlighted her administration’s commitment to supporting education, revealing that bursary allocation has been increased from KSh 120 million to KSh 160 million. The move, she said, is aimed at cushioning vulnerable families and ensuring that no learner is forced out of school due to financial constraints.

“My administration has also increased the allocation of bursaries from KSh 120 million to KSh 160 million to ensure that more learners from vulnerable families can continue their studies without interruption,” she added.

The governor’s remarks come amid growing concerns from education stakeholders over funding gaps, with leaders now piling pressure on the national government to prioritize the education sector.
