Ikanga Kyatune Ward MCA Hon. Cyrus Musyoka Sonko on Monday 9th March 2026 joined Kitui Governor Julius Malombe and other Members of the County Assembly in Mutonguni during celebrations to mark International Women’s Day.
The event brought together county leaders, women groups, and residents to reflect on the progress made in advancing women’s rights and gender equality while also highlighting areas that still require attention.
Speaking exclusively with our reporter during the commemoration, Hon. Sonko emphasized the importance of promoting girl-child education, noting that education remains a powerful tool in empowering young girls and creating equal opportunities in society. He urged parents and community leaders to invest in the education and protection of the girl child.
The MCA noted that empowering girls through education not only strengthens families but also contributes to long-term social and economic development in the community. Leaders at the event reiterated their commitment to policies and initiatives that support women and girls across Kitui County.
