Kitui County CECM for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services, Phoebe Mutemi, has challenged young people to turn their passions into profit by actively engaging in sports and other income-generating talents.

Speaking on Sunday, March 1, 2026, during the Kitui Rural Sub-County Governor’s Cup awarding ceremony, Ms. Mutemi encouraged youths to make productive use of their free time by participating in sporting activities that can open doors to economic opportunities. She noted that tournaments such as the Governor’s Cup provide a vital platform for young people to showcase their abilities and potentially build sustainable careers from their talents.

The event, which attracted enthusiastic participation from both men’s and women’s teams across various wards in Kitui Rural Sub-County, underscored the growing influence of grassroots sports in the region. In the men’s category, Mosa United FC emerged champions, followed by MK Elites FC in second place, Syomunyu FC in third, and Kitungati FC in fourth position. In the women’s category, MK Elites Queens FC clinched the title, with Lower Yatta Queens FC finishing second, Kisasi Starlets FC third, and Buffalo Queens FC fourth.

Ms. Mutemi was accompanied by CECM for Education, Training and Skills Development Joyce Kasyoka, alongside Yatta/Kwa Vonza MCA Mark Nding’o and Kisasi MCA Nicholas Mutemi, among other senior county officials. As the Governor’s Cup continues to gather momentum, county leaders reaffirmed their commitment to empowering youth, promoting sports development, and strengthening community cohesion across Kitui County.
