Kitui South witnessed unprecedented crowds on Thursday as President William Ruto addressed mammoth rallies in Ikutha during the launch of key national development projects aimed at transforming the region’s infrastructure, land ownership, and public services.

The President, who was received by Kitui South MP Hon. Dr. Rachel Kaki Nyamai, presided over the rollout of the Ikutha–Kanziku–Mutha–Mutomo Road Phase I, a KSh 1.27 billion project expected to open up the southern corridor of Kitui County and spur economic growth.

Speaking at the event, President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering tangible development across the country, urging leaders to work together for national progress.

In a statement following the function, MP Kaki expressed deep appreciation for the President’s focus on Kitui South, noting that the region had long awaited such impactful interventions.

She highlighted several key projects unveiled during the visit, including the KSh 2.2 billion Kitui County electrification programme, out of which KSh 524 million has been allocated to Kitui South to expand electricity access in homes, schools, and trading centres.

The President also oversaw the issuance of 15,417 title deeds to residents of Mutomo and Ikutha sub-counties, a move expected to strengthen land security and unlock economic opportunities for thousands of families.

Additionally, both sub-counties are set to benefit from the KSh 15 billion Affordable Housing initiative, which aims to create jobs while improving access to decent housing. In a gesture welcomed by the education community, President Ruto pledged KSh 5 million to support the purchase of a school bus for Ikutha Girls Secondary School.

Hon. Kaki said she was honoured by the President’s recognition of her efforts in advocating for development in the region.

“I am grateful for His Excellency’s commendation and remain committed to ensuring that Kitui South residents fully benefit from these transformative projects,” she said.

The President’s visit drew thousands of enthusiastic residents from Ikutha, Kanziku, Mutha, and Mutomo, marking what many described as a new era of growth and renewed optimism for Kitui South.
